Thornbury Castle Hotel, Castle Street, Thornbury, Gloucestershire, BS35 1HH

OVERVIEW

Built in the 16th century and maintained in immaculate condition, Thornbury Castle Hotel now acts as stunning setting for small and larger weddings, exclusive use weddings, vow renewal and civil ceremonies.

Let us take the effort out of your wedding day, so you can genuinely enjoy the splendour of the surroundings. We’ll organise the finer details, from photographs on the immaculate lawns and picture-perfect cuisine in an opulent dining room, to a splendid ball in the Tudor Hall and a luxurious night in a giant four-poster bed. Our wedding planners can help to organise your big event to incorporate every feature of this unique venue.

Built by Edward Stafford, Duke of Buckingham, during the reign of Henry VIII, Thornbury Castle has a history that’s almost palpable as you walk its centuries-old halls. Henry VIII honeymooned here with his wife Anne Boleyn, after executing Stafford for treason and seizing the castle. Today, the castle offers a unique experience as a hotel, restaurant and wedding venue, where guests can find inspiration in a piece of the country’s history. Within the castle, there are 27 sumptuous bedchambers, most with four poster or coronet beds and some with feature bathrooms. Ideal for big day preparations (and recovery). You will also find chandeliers, wood-panelled walls and furnishings that combine medieval style and modern comfort. “The Duke’s Bedchamber” which was where the King and Queen spent their honeymoon, is still available as a guest bedchamber to this day.

Take a pre-party nap on a giant four-poster bed, get ready for the ceremony in an ornate dressing room, and smarten up in a beautifully designed spacious bathroom. Our wedding planning team are genuine experts: they know the castle inside-out and can guide you through every step of the way, whether you’re organising an intimate family affair, a private castle wedding, or a no-holds-barred ball in the great hall.

Thornbury Castle offers contemporary comforts and conveniences of a modern venue, with breath-taking historical grandeur. Surrounded by landscaped gardens and enclosed by crenelated walls, the castle inspires your wedding guests as they approach.

The castle also has an award-winning restaurant and offers wonderful food and drink that live up to the venue. Our Head Chef, Andrew Chan and his team of talented chefs prepare fresh food with an emphasis on choice and quality using seasonal ingredients, many of which are grown in our castle gardens. With an emphasis on choice and quality, they can tailor a menu to match your wedding and to meet the requirements of your guests.

With gorgeous landscaped grounds and an ancient walled kitchen garden, not to mention the architectural splendour of the Castle itself, this is a place of great romance, infused with history. While secluded and tucked away in its extensive private estate, Thornbury is within easy reach of the M4, M5 and Bristol.

This 16th-century castle truly is a unique wedding venue, with delicious food, excellent service and fantastic facilities, perfect for infusing your wedding with a little regal grandeur.
